Please see notice from the City of Kansas City, Missouri:

The City of Kansas City, Missouri, is extending the 2019 Earnings Tax filing and payment deadline to July 15, 2020, mirroring the guidance issued by the Internal Revenue Service and the State of Missouri Department of Revenue. The hope is that this extension provides some financial relief to individuals and businesses dealing with the COVID-19 outbreak.

The change, approved on Thursday by the City Council, is automatic and does not require a request for extension from taxpayers. Taxpayers who need more time to file beyond the July 15 due date, may file an extension for an additional six months. Extension payment must be 90% of the tax due to avoid penalty and interest.

This ordinance does not apply to the quarterly employers’ withholding tax requirements.

Although the earnings tax deadlines have been extended, those taxpayers who are able to meet the April 15 due date are encouraged to do so in order to mitigate the financial effects of this crisis to City operations.

“To help slow the spread of COVID-19 throughout our region, we’ve asked everyone who can stay home to do so — and it’s up to elected leaders to make that as easy as possible,” Mayor Quinton Lucas said. “My heart breaks knowing that those most economically affected by this Stay at Home Order are our service workers and those living paycheck-to-paycheck. Extending the Kansas City e-tax payment deadline will help provide our working families some relief as our community together navigates this unprecedented public health crisis.”

Taxpayers are reminded that all City taxes can be filed and paid online via the Quick Tax system.
