Seigfreid Bingham is saddened to announce the death of longtime shareholder David E. Shay. He passed away suddenly on May 11, 2020 of natural causes.

Dave was a graduate of Cameron R1 High School in Cameron, Missouri. He earned a B.S. in Journalism from the University of Kansas in 1984, then went on to earn a Juris Doctor from the University of Kansas School of Law in 1988, where he was a member of Law Review and Order of the Coif.

He was sworn in as an attorney by the Missouri Bar in 1988 and, after spending 11 years at another Kansas City law firm, he joined Seigfreid Bingham as a litigation shareholder in 1999 and spent the last 21 years of his legal career there, handling commercial litigation matters ranging from defending class action cases to complex litigation and business disputes.
He served as chair of the firm’s Creditor Rights and Environmental law practice groups, and represented many clients in the Equipment Dealer industry.

Outside of work, Dave was passionate about coaching youth football through the Kansas City Football and Cheerleading Club, which started with his own sons and continued for over 20 years.

“Dave Shay was an excellent attorney who was well known for his wry and self-deprecating sense of humor. He will be remembered for his calm spirit, hard work, great attitude, and willingness to consult with any attorney who needed his help. The firm offers its sincerest condolences to his wife Kym, his three sons and the rest of the Shay family. He will be missed by all at Seigfreid Bingham,” said CEO Steve Kyle.
