Kansas City, Missouri (June 21, 2018) – Seigfreid Bingham, P.C. expresses its deepest condolences upon the death of one of its founding members and former managing partner.  Larry J. Bingham, 78, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2018 with his family at his side.

On behalf of the firm, Stephen M. Kyle, the current CEO of the firm, said “The entire Seigfreid Bingham family extends its condolences to Larry’s wife, Ann, his three children, his four grandchildren, and other family members.  Larry was an outstanding attorney and leader of the firm for more than 40 years.  His hard work, innovative approach to both the practice of the law and law firm management, commitment to his faith and community, and his loyalty and friendship will be greatly missed, but his legacy will live on through the law firm that he founded 44 years ago.”

Larry was born in Kansas City in 1940, and attended Shawnee Mission High School (now Shawnee Mission North). After receiving his B.S. in Accounting from Kansas State University in 1962, he married his high school sweetheart, Ann Heaton.  He went on to attend law school and received his Juris Doctorate with honors from the University of Michigan in 1965.

Following law school graduation, he was hired as an associate with the firm of Dietrich, Davis, Burrell, Dicus & Rowlands.  He became a partner of that firm in 1970 and continued to practice law there until 1974.  On June 1, 1974, together with his partners Bill Burrell and Jim Seigfreid, he founded the law firm of Burrell, Seigfreid & Bingham, which is known as Seigfreid Bingham, P.C. today.  Larry served in firm management from the firm’s founding until 2010, and as the managing partner of the firm from 1996 to 2006.

Larry was an accomplished attorney who fully utilized his training as an accountant (he loved to absorb himself in “a really complicated Excel spreadsheet”) and represented some of Kansas City’s most prominent families and businesses in corporate, healthcare, tax, estate planning and trust administration matters during his 53-year legal career. His passions as a lawyer were to serve his clients as more than just a lawyer, but rather as a trusted business partner that could be relied upon in good times and bad, and to build a law firm of the highest caliber and ideals that had a caring culture and strong personal relationships among the lawyers, staff and clients.

Larry received a number of awards and recognitions during his legal career, including being listed in The Best Lawyers in America, Trusts & Estates, named a Missouri & Kansas Super Lawyer in the areas of Closely Held Business and Estate Planning & Probate, recognized as a Five Star Wealth Manager, Estate Planning, and honored as a Baron of the Boardroom by KCMBA in 2007.

Larry loved to cheer on his K-State Wildcats and served on the Board of Trustees of the Kansas State University Foundation for a number of years.

Larry was dedicated to a number of charitable and church activities.  He was a member of St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church of Mission, Kansas since 1966, and served in a variety of positions in the church, the Diocese of Kansas, and the General Convention of the Episcopal Church.  Larry had a passion for learning and teaching theology, becoming a mentor for Education for Ministry, which he led for over 30 years.

The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to either the Bishop Kemper School for Ministry 701 SW 8th Avenue, Topeka, Kansas, 66603 (bishopkemperschool.org) or to St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, 6630 Nall, Mission, Kansas 66202 (stmaa.com).
