With a line of attorneys in the family, Curry’s interest in the law began in high school but was sidetracked by opportunities from his experience as a high-level athlete. A former All-Big 12 Wide Receiver at Kansas State University, Curry considered his career options and decided to see where a legal education might take him. After one semester at Washburn University School of Law, he was hooked on the exciting aspects of litigation with a similar drive and motivation he found on the football field. Teaming up with attorneys and clients, facing the opposition in a highly competitive industry, and taking the facts and creating a strategy to achieve a desirable end goal for the client, are all aspects that draw him to the legal world.
An active member of the firm’s Sports and Entertainment practice, Curry provides guidance to NCAA conferences and institutions as part of the firm’s “Empower U” service, which navigates clients through the Name, Image, and Likeness regulations for student-athletes. Recognized as a cutting edge service in the legal community, Empower U received a Top Legal Innovations award from Missouri Lawyers Media in 2021. He also counsels sports clients through general guidance, class action concussion litigation, and risk management initiatives. What makes Curry a great advocate for clients is his communication skills, attention to detail, diligence, and work ethic. He strives to provide highly efficient and effective representation to all clients and will stop at nothing to seek the best possible resolution.
During law school, Curry sought out several avenues in which to hone his legal skills, serving as a judicial extern at the Kansas Court of Appeals, an opportunity which provided him invaluable insight into the judicial process and helped further craft his legal writing skills. Additionally, he was a Senior Staff Writer on the Washburn Law Journal, a Moot Court Council Member, and a member of the school’s Texas Young Lawyer’s Association Trial Team.
Born and raised on a farm in rural Abilene, Kan., Curry enjoys attending sporting events and concerts, golfing, hunting, fishing, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.
